Membership criteria

  • NEAJA solicits a membership fee of US $ 50.00 for a two-year term.
  • Journalists demonstrating a sincere, constructive interest in furthering ethnic Nepali journalism in the North American region and Nepal, and subscribing to the purposes of the Association as stated in the Articles of Incorporation, may become general members after completing a Membership Application, and paying the annual due of US $ 50.00. The membership shall be valid for two years. However, the general Convention can change the fees and other requirements. Membership should be renewed before a week of the general convention. Renewal fee shall be US $ 35.00 for one term.
  • Applicants for membership need to apply with minimum two references from two reputed media professionals.
  • Working Committee shall decide whether or not to grant the membership.
  • Our goals are to bring professional journalists from the Nepali heritage together and to create a networking environment free of politics that helps members meet, promote and help each other.
  • We abide by the SPJ Code of Ethics.
  • We plan to host journalism and writing contests and provide a journalism scholarship for students of Nepal who are entering their journalism school.
  • We are NOT a political advocacy organization. While we address political issues, we do so only in the context of professional Journalism.
  • Our goals are to help Nepali American journalists to become more professional and to work to engage Nepali Americans to insure that their journalism product is in harmony with the fundamentals of professional journalism. We strive to be journalists, not activists or advocates for any cause. We are not activists for political issues, but journalists for accuracy, fairness, balance and principle.

    Automatic Termination of Membership

  • Any member who knowingly violates the SPJ Code of Ethics, their membership will be terminated automatically.
  • Any member who has been convicted of 2nd degree or higher level of crime in their local jurisdictions will be automatically terminated.
